The suspension of return to Lebanon is lifted

From 1 May 2025, the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) will lift the suspension of the duty to return to Lebanon and will resume the processing of Lebanon cases.

Published: 30.04.2025

UDI and UNE suspended the duty to return to Lebanon on 31 October 2024 and at the same time put cases involving return to Lebanon on hold.

Based on the improved security situation in Lebanon, UNE has decided to lift the suspension of the duty to return to Lebanon. This means that the duty to return again applies to persons who have received a final rejection with a duty to return to Lebanon, unless they have been granted deferred implementation in their case.

The decision to lift the suspension of the duty to return also means that the police can carry out forced returns to Lebanon.

Resumes case processing

UDI will resume the processing of cases with an assessment of return to Lebanon. The security situation in the country and the region is unpredictable, and changes can happen quickly. We are closely monitoring how the situation develops in Lebanon. When processing the specific cases, UDI will assess the cases in light of the situation at the time of the decision.

Around ten cases in UNE

UNE currently has around ten cases covered by the suspension that have been put on hold. Deferred implementation has been granted in these cases. According to UNE, the Police Immigration Unit (PU) has identified 19 cases that are covered by the suspension and have been put on hold.

Can request a new assessment of the case

Persons who have requested a reassessment of their case will receive a reassessment. Anyone who has requested a new assessment and has been granted deferred enforcement, is allowed to stay in Norway until their case has been processed.

Persons who are residing in Norway and do not have a case pending with UDI or UNE may request a reassessment of their case (reuest for reversal) if they believe there are grounds for doing so
